Beyond Balance is a volunteer-based non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives and experiences of individuals with disabilities through equine activities. The partnership between the Sequoia Alternative Program and Beyond Balance allows our students to develop skills that can't be acquired in a traditional classroom. During the 10-week program, our students assist with barn, horse, and field maintenance while learning about therapeutic riding and how it can help others with special needs. Students also learn the importance and rewards of volunteering to help others. Students scheduled for this course will earn 2.5 credits toward graduation and can earn 20 (+) volunteer hours, which will be an asset to include on resumes, transcripts, and applications. Here are just a few examples of the work our students perform while at the farm:

  • Maintaining the shed and barn where the therapy horses live
  • Moving and cleaning up hay
  • Feeding and caring for goats
  • Cleaning water buckets Grooming and interacting with the horses.

This is a wonderful and rewarding program. Many of our students request to volunteer even after the 10-week program is finished.
